Deli UPC Numbering System The UPC is a 12-digit (sometimes referred to as an 11-digit, depending on whether
people include the random weight "2" or a check digit), all-numeric code that
identifies consumer retail packages.
This revised numbering system (originally published in 1988) was updated in 1996 to
reflect the changes in product offerings. This includes deleting obsolete items, adding
new items, and increasing retailer assigned numbers.
This book includes category listings and an alphabetical cross-reference PLUS a
computer disc with database and worksheet files. The category listings include: deli
meats, pizza, cheese, prepared foods/entrees, salads and other deli items including
sandwiches, side dishes, bread, rice, dressings, soups, vegetables,
dips/dressings/spreads, party trays, gift baskets, pasta, snacks, beverages, and desserts.
